Designing research proposals, writing MA Theses, and Doctoral Dissertations are task that are closely related to the development of research competencies, thinking and planning abilities, and writing skills. The purpose of this seminar is to give the participants a general overview of the type of work they will be carrying out as graduate students. Effective ways of planning and practical steps to follow will be discussed. The importance of developing organization skills will be emphasized and clear examples will also be presented and analyzed.
Some time will be devoted to exploring the basic formats of research studies (conceptual, historical, methodological and theoretical) and the areas in which each format is more likely to be used. The conventional organization of information into chapters and sections will be looked into and how data are collected and analyzed later on (qualitative and quantitative research). Towards the end of the seminar, a general overview of the main aspects to keep in mind for the oral defense will be provided.
