By means of a phylogenetic study of morphological and palynological characters, and taking as a basis the cytogenetic characters established in this way, the subordination of the genera Pleurosorus, Phyllitis and Ceterach to the generic taxon was established.
subordination of the genera Pleurosorus, Phyllitis and Ceterach to the Linnaean generic taxon Asplenium is confirmed. By applying the method of numerical taxonomy the genus Asplenium is subdivided into two subgenera: Pleurosorus (Fée) stat. nov. and Asplenium. The latter is also divided into two sections: Asplenium and Ceterach. The taxonomic problems relating to the subgenus Pleurosorus are commented on, as are those of its only species: A. subglandulosum (Hooker & Greville) Salvo, Prada & Dfaz, which comprises three subspecies: subglandulosum, from Australia and New Zealand, papaverifolium (Kunze)
Salvo, Prada & Diaz, from Chile and Argentina, and hispanicum (Cosson) Salvo, Prada & Diaz, from Spain and Morocco. A key to the differentiation of the taxa mentioned is added.
