Ancient astrology classified creatures and elements of the natural world in never fixed or closed taxonomies in accordance with the governing planet. Their criteria were used to be very diverse and physical, mythological, religious and other stranger reasons are intermixed in them. In this paper, after analyzing the planet Saturn from the astronomical and astrological point of view according to ancient sources, we study how a small group of birds considered as saturnine by astrologers are characterized by these same sources. Our aim is to determine to what extent their features and behaviour could correspond to a saturnine personality.
