A circuit property of symmetrical lattice networks
is derived and applied to the analysis of symmetrical twoport
electromagnetic structures. This property is related to the
independence of the power dissipation in the series and cross impedances
of the lattice network and the consequent independence
in the power dissipated under even and odd excitation in the twoport
structure. Its utility is illustrated with its application to a
planar radiating element, the so-called complementary strip-slot.
This property allows identifying the cause of the losses in the
analysed example and explains the radiation origin.
